The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office arrested Venoy Hartfield, 42, on Friday following a traffic stop in the Moss community, leading to a charge of aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance. Deputies located approximately 940 ecstasy tablets during the stop, according to details released by Sheriff Randy Johnson. The significant quantity of the controlled substance was found concealed within a fast-food bag, as reported by Sheriff Johnson.
The arrest of Hartfield, who is 42 years old, occurred within the geographic bounds of the Moss community, a part of Jasper County. This action by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office aimed to address suspected illicit activity encountered during a routine traffic stop. The discovery of the nearly one thousand ecstasy tablets immediately elevated the nature of the encounter, leading to the serious charge of aggravated trafficking. Sheriff Johnson specifically confirmed the number of tablets and their method of concealment, providing details that became part of the official record of the incident.
In addition to the primary charge of aggravated trafficking, Hartfield faced several other legal issues arising from the traffic stop. Information available on the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office website indicates that Hartfield was also charged with first-offense driving under the influence. Further charges listed on the JCSO website included driving without a valid license and operating a vehicle with an expired registration tag. These additional charges contributed to the legal framework surrounding the Friday arrest in the Moss community.
Following his arrest and the formal filing of charges, Venoy Hartfield appeared before the legal system to address the accusations. Judge Marvin Jones subsequently set a bond for Hartfield at $25,000. This amount was determined by the court to ensure Hartfield’s appearance at future legal proceedings while allowing for his temporary release. Records confirm that Hartfield has since been released from custody after meeting the requirements of the $25,000 bond. The process from arrest to bond setting and subsequent release underscores the standard legal procedures followed in Jasper County after such an incident.
Sheriff Randy Johnson confirmed that the investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing. The Sheriff stated that additional charges are pending, signifying that the initial filing may not encompass the full scope of potential legal actions related to the discovery of the controlled substance. Furthermore, Sheriff Johnson noted that the charges currently filed against Hartfield "could be updated as the investigation continues," allowing for modifications based on new evidence or findings by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. This ongoing investigative work reflects the continued efforts of local law enforcement to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the trafficking charge and the large quantity of ecstasy tablets found.
