Crowder College Theatre will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of "Mean Girls, The Musical," a stage adaptation featuring book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. Annie Smith, the Theatre Director at Crowder College, announced the details for the auditions, which are open to the community and will lead to a production featuring a substantial cast. The musical is designed for a "large cast of teen and adult roles," indicating a broad opportunity for local performers to participate in a college-level theatre production.
The audition process for "Mean Girls, The Musical" is set to take place within the Elsie Plaster Community Center, located on the Crowder College campus in Neosho, Missouri. Prospective cast members must be age 16 or older to be eligible to audition. Each individual seeking a role is required to prepare 16 bars of a song, which should effectively demonstrate their vocal skills and range. This musical excerpt should last approximately one minute. It is important for all auditionees to note that they must provide their own accompaniment for their chosen song, ensuring their prepared piece can be presented as intended.
Beyond the prepared vocal segment, all audition participants will also engage in a cold reading from the musical's script. This segment allows the director to assess an actor's ability to interpret and perform unfamiliar material on the spot. Furthermore, a short dance movement will be taught by the production team during the audition session itself. Actors will then be asked to perform this newly learned choreography, providing insight into their physical performance capabilities and ability to follow instruction.
The full production of "Mean Girls, The Musical" is scheduled for three public performances later in the fall. Audiences can attend evening shows on October 23 and October 24, with both performances scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. A final matinee performance will be held on October 25, commencing at 2 p.m. These dates offer residents of Neosho, Webb City, Carthage, Carl Junction, and other communities in the Four States area a chance to see live local theatre.
